Monsters University Debuts in First, World War Z, a Strong Second

Pixar's Monsters Inc. sequel, Monsters University, easily topped the box office this weekend ($82 million), making it the second biggest opening for Pixar (behind the $110 million debut of Toy Story 3).

The Brad Pitt troubled production of World War Z took in a strong $66 million for second place.  This bodes well, since many analysts were smelling a flop.  However, we shall see in the upcoming weeks, to weather this zombie infested thriller has the legs to recoup it's reported $190 million budget back. This is also Brad Pitt's biggest movie debut, beating Mr. & Mrs Smith's $50.3 million.

Man of Steel dropped almost 65% for a third place finish ($41.2 million).  Though it was expected to drop a large margin, many didn't predict one this large.

And... Iron Man 3 crossed the $400 million mark domestically.
