Despicable Me 2 easily took the top spot at the box office this 4th of July weekend ($82.5 million) with a five day total of $142.1 million. This is just ahead of what Toy Story 3 did in it's first five days.
Disney's The Lone Ranger, on the other hand, could only muster up $29.4 million for a five day total of $48.9 million. Which would be great if it cost under a $100 million to produce (it's reported to cost $215 million). Unless Johnny Depp's worldwide appeal can aid in the overseas marketplace, The Lone Ranger may be Disney's biggest flop since John Carter.
