In a crowded weekend at the movies, the Matt Damon and director Neill Blomkamp Sci-Fi pic,
Elysium, took the top spot at the box office ($30.4 million). Though it debuted a bit lower than expected, it's still off to a decent start.
We're the Millers took in $26.7 million for a very good second place, especially considering this movie only cost $37 million.
As for Disney's
Planes, it underwhelmed a bit ($22.5 million), mostly because of the crowded family movie market, and the fact that it looks bad. However, it's budget is a fraction of most animated movies ($50 million). So, expect this movie to be a moderate success.
The fourth movie to hit theaters this weekend,
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, well... may need a little help getting a profit as it made $14.6 million against it's $90 million budget.
