Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Takes Top Spot

The sequel to the likable first film Meatball film, easily took the top spot at the box office this weekend ($35 million).   The other newcomers (Rush, Baggage Claim, Don Jon) somewhat underwhelmed... Though, since Rush and Don Jon are getting good buzz, it might have legs (and they both are relatively low budget films.)

Insidious 2 Scares up the Box Office

Insidious Chapter 2 easily scared away the competition this weekend at the box office ($41.1 million).  It reportedly cost $5 million to make, so expect more sequels to come, as a new Horror franchise for the next half decade has taken course.

Meanwhile, the Robert DeNiro dark comedy mob flick The Family, managed a mediocre $14.5 million... which is actually higher than expectations.

Vin Diesel's Riddick, dropped over 60% to third ($7 million).  And The Butler finally passed the $100 million mark in it's 5th weekend.

One Direction Takes the Top of the Box Office

The One Direction concert movie, This Is Us took the top spot at the box office this weekend ($17 million). Meanwhile, The Butler is holding on strong to second place as it only dipped 10% from last weekend ($14.7 million).

The one surprise, Instructions Not Included, debuted in 5th place, with just about 347 theaters for a gross of $7.5 million.

As for Getaway, it's obviously being swept under a rug, as it's 9th place debut ($4.5 million) and 2% tomatometer will tell you (which may be the worst of the year).  Luckly, it's reported budget isn't all too much ($18 million).
