300: Rise of An Empire Conquers The Box Office

A sizable audience flocked to theaters to watch 300: Rise of An Empire ($45.1 million), helping it conquer the top spot at the box office.  Though not as big as the original 300's $70.9 million, it's a strong start for a sequel that is without the original star and director. Overseas, it had a stronger start, raking in $87.8 million.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman had a decent second place finish ($32.5 million) in an animated market that has been recently over saturated by The LEGO Movie.
