Maleficent vs A Million Ways to Die in the West vs X-Men

A couple new movies hit theaters this weekend looking to battle the X-Men.

Hit Factor: Disney is throwing a lot of money at this so it doesn't flop.
Flop Factor: Outside of the concept, the trailers don't seem that interesting.

A Million Ways to Die in the West
Hit Factor: Seth MacFarlane is riding strong off his Ted success.

X-Men: Days of Future Past Crushes Memorial Day Weekend

Yup, you heard it here bub… X-Men: Days of Future Past easily destroyed the box office this Memorial Day weekend ($90.7 million) and it still has Monday to go.  It has also made an X-Men record shattering $281.1 million worldwide, which is a best for the franchise.

X-Men most likely took some of Godzilla's audience away, as the king of monsters dropped over 66% from last weekend, but the film is still proving strong.

The Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore comedy, Blended, didn't fare so well with $14.2 million. Do I smell a potential Grown Ups 3 in the works?

Godzilla is King of the Box Office Again

Godzilla had a monstrous $93.2 million debut… which crushed, stomped, destroyed (insert pun here) the competition.  Godzilla, so far, has the second highest debut of 2014 (just behind Captain America: Winter Soldier's $95 million).  Though, this might quickly change in a week, when the new X-Men movie hits theaters.

The king of monsters is set to cause massive destruction at the box office.

Godzilla

Flop Factor: The last American Godzilla movie was… well… you know.

Million Dollar Arm
Hit Factor: A safe counter-audience movie from the big spectacles Godzilla and Spiderman and the raunchy Neighbors.
Flop Factor: Summer movie season is here… not really something I'd wanna see in the theaters.

Neighbors vs Legends of Oz vs Amazing Spiderman 2

A couple new movies hit theaters this post Spiderman 2 weekend... One may actually beat it.

Neighbors
Hit Factor: A recent upswing in positive buzz... may help it break as this year's The Hangover or Bridesmaids.
Flop Factor: We'll see if that early buzz translates to box office success... Plus, since the movie is pretty raunchy, the commercials aren't really able to show any of the jokes.

Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return
Hit Factor: The Oz material has always been likeable.
Flop Factor: This looks more like a straight to video release than anything from Pixar, Dreamworks, or even Fox.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

Legends of Oz
The Other Woman
