Kung Fu Panda 3 Wuxi Finger Hold's the Box Office

(Sorry, I had to throw in a Kung Fu Panda reference)

The third installment of the Kung Fu Panda series, Kung Fu Panda 3, easily topped ($41 million) the weekend box office. It is a smidgen lower than Kung Fu Panda 2's $47.7 million, which was released back in 2011. However, it's $57 million opening in China, set the country's record for biggest opening for an animated film.  Which makes sense, since this is the first US-China co-production.

There were other movies that came out this weekend, but they all underwhelmed: The Finest Hours $10.3 million and Fifty Shades of Black ($6.2 million).

This is the first weekend where there is nothing to report for Star Wars: The Force Awakens as it nears $900 million domestically and $2 billion worldwide.
