Deadpool Reigns Over Third Weekend at the Box Office

Deadpool easily took the top spot for the third weekend in a row ($31.5 million) to become the third highest grossing rated R movie domestically, with Passion of the Christ ($370.8 million) and American Sniper ($350.1 million) still to conquer.  Worldwide, Deadpool has grossed $609.8 million and has a good chance to surpass The Matrix Reloaded's $742.1 million to become the highest grossing rated R movie of all time worldwide.

Deadpool is also the highest grossing X-Men movie domestically, and is quickly catching up to Days of Future Past's $747.9 million worldwide take.

Oh yeah... there were new movies this weekend...
Everyone is talking about (or not talking about) Gods of Egypt's dismal debut ($14 million). It reportedly cost $140 million to make. That's not a good return of investment. Even star Gerald Butler is already promoting his next film, London Has Fallen.

Eddie the Eagle ($6.3 million) and Triple 9 ($6.1 million) round out the newcomers.

Deadpool vs Eddie the Eagle vs Gods of Egypt vs Triple 9

A few new movies hit theaters this weekend as Deadpool aims for a three-peat performance.

Eddie the Eagle
Hit Factor: Apparently, the "feel good movie of the year" according to some.
Flop Factor: There's a lot of movie with this formula, let's hope it's a bit different.

Gods of Egypt
Hit Factor: Director Alex Proyas has made some great films such as The Crow and Dark City.
Flop Factor: With that said, I still probably wont see this film.

Triple 9
Hit Factor: Has quite the cast for a film I've never heard of.
Flop Factor: A film that has zero marketing attached to it.

Deadpool Easily Conquers Second Weekend

Deadpool took the top spot for the second weekend in a row ($55 million). It has made over $235 million so far making it the quickest R-rated movie to reach $200 million. Worldwide, it has grossed over $491.9 million.  In another interesting event, it has also just surpassed X-Men: The Last Stand's $234.4 million domestic take, making it the biggest X-Men franchised film.  Worldwide, Days of Future Past holds that title with $747.9 million.

In other news, newcomers Risen ($11.8 million), The Witch ($8.7 million) and Race ($7.3 million) all debuted within expectations.

Deadpool vs Risen vs Race vs The Witch

A few new movies I've never heard of open this weekend as Deadpool should reign supreme.

Risen
Hit Factor: Recent Faith-based films seem to do moderately well against it's budget.
Flop Factor: Haven't seen Joseph Fiennes' movie in a while.

Race
Hit Factor: Could be an interesting based on a true story movie.
Flop Factor: Like above, marketing seems moot.

The Witch
Hit Factor: Getting good reviews (86% Tomatometer)
Flop Factor: Again, like the movies above, I haven't heard of this movie till now.

Deadpool Shatters Box Office Expectations with $135 million

The romantic comedy (according to Deadpool himself) film, Deadpool, obliterated all box office expectations this Valentine's Day weekend as it took in $135 million.  It has broken the record for biggest R rated film which was previously held by The Matrix: Reloaded ($91.8 million), the biggest debut for the month of February and also marks Fox's biggest opening weekend, ever. Overseas, Deadpool has already grossed $125 million.

That leaves other newcomers How to Be Single ($18.8 million) and Zoolander 2 ($15.7 million) to settle for 3rd and 4th place behind Kung Fu Panda 3 ($19.7 million).

In other news, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has surpassed the $2 billion mark worldwide... only the third movie to do so behind Avatar ($2.788 billion) and Titanic ($2.186 billion).

Deadpool vs Zoolander 2 vs How to be Single

A non-romantic movie sets it's sites on dominating Valentine's Day weekend.

Deadpool
Hit Factor: Surprisingly good early reviews (80% Tomatometer), Ryan Reynolds seems perfect for Deadpool... oh wait, he was Deadpool before.
Flop Factor: Will the buzz grow outside of the hardcore comic book/internet fans show up?

Zoolander 2
Hit Factor: The first Zoolander is great.
Flop Factor: Seems to be outshined in the marketing department by Deadpool. The commercials show the same jokes over and over... I hope there's more in the film.

How to be Single
Hit Factor: The only somewhat romantic film for Valentine's Day.
Flop Factor: The buzz is trailing those two movies above.

Kung Fu Panda 3

Kung Fu Panda 3 Holds Top Spot for Second Weekend in a Row

Kung Fu Panda 3 ($21 million) easily held on to the top spot this Super Bowl Weekend while newcomers Hail, Caesar! ($11.4 million), The Choice ($6.1 million) and Pride Prejudice and Zombies ($5.2 million) all came up short.

In China, Kung Fu Panda 3 already made $101.7 million... and has grossed $198.1 million worldwide.

In Star Wars news, The Force Awakens has passed the $2 billion mark worldwide and is the first movie to past the $900 million mark domestically.  It's an earshot away from surpassing Titanic's $2.187 billion, but probably wont come close to Avatar's record $2.788 billion.

Hail, Caesar! vs Pride Prejudice and Zombies vs The Choice

Kung Fu Panda 3 looks to hold on to first place as a few new movies open in theaters this February Weekend.

Hail, Caesar!
Hit Factor: Cast, directed by the Coen Brothers.
Flop Factor: Despite big cast, it's opening in February... meaning they don't have a real target audience.

Pride Prejudice and Zombies
Hit Factor: On the surface it sounds like a fun movie.
Flop Factor: Trailer seems a bit underwhelming.

The Choice
Hit Factor: No competition in the romance drama genre.
Flop Factor: Looks like another generic romance film.
