Batman v Superman Breaks Box Office Records with $170 million

Yes, despite being ravaged by critics (currently a 29% Tomatometer), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice managed to break box office records with it's $170.1 million debut...

  • Biggest opening for a movie in March, which was previously held by The Hunger Games' $152.2 million back in 2012.
  • Biggest opening weekend ever for Warner Bros. (if it holds) Whose previous record was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million)
  • Biggest superhero opening of all time worldwide... $424.1 million, with $254 million from overseas.

So, we'll see if this film has any legs come next weekend.

2nd place, Zootopia is still holding on strong ($23.1 million) and has already made $240 million since it's release 4 weeks ago. It has also amassed an incredible $696.7 million worldwide.

The only other non-superhero newcomer this weekend was My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which did slightly better than expected ($18.1 million) for a third place finish.
