The Clint Eastwood directed and Tom Hanks starring, based-on-a-true-story flick,
Sully, easily remained on top of the box office this weekend with $22 million.
Yes, you heard right, the
Blair Witch failed to scare up a sizable box office with it's $9.7 million debut, settling for second place instead. This is behind the
Blair Witch 2's $13.2 million from 2000 and way behind the $29.2 million wide release opener for the original
Blair Witch Project back in 1999. All is not lost, as this will still be a profitable movie since it's budget is reported to be around $5 million.
The other newcomers didn't do so well either, as
Bridget Jones's Baby ($8.2 million) and
Snowden ($8 million) delivered below expectations.
