Wonder Woman Defends Box Office with $57.2 Million

Wonder Woman easily held on to the top spot this weekend ($57.2 million) despite the $32 million debut of The Mummy, a big budget Universal reboot that Tom Cruise (well, stateside, anyhow) couldn't even save. Wonder Woman has surpassed the $200 million mark domestically and has grossed over $435 million worldwide.

Back to The Mummy... it's Universal's third misaligned attempt in the past decade to reignite their shared monster universe (2010's The Wolfman, and 2014's Dracula Untold). However, there is a silver lining despite it's tepid response in the states: Tom Cruise's name still carries weight overseas, where it grossed $141.8 million. It's worldwide total stands at a hefty $174.1 million.
