Despicable Me 3 Tops Box Office with $75 million

The third installment of the Despicable Me series (though, 4th of the universe), easily topped the box office this weekend ($75.4 million). However, it's a bit down from Despicable Me 2's $83.5 million and even the Minions' spinoff debut of $115.7 million, which came out in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Despicable Me 3 has already grossed $117 million overseas for an early worldwide total of $192.3 million.

In somewhat surprising news amidst all these sequel fatigued movies in the States, is that the critically acclaimed non-franchise action flick, Baby Driver, debuted to a strong $21 million. It bested Transformers: The Last Knight's second weekend (for second place) as it continues to fall domestically (62% over last weekend), slipping to third with $17 million. It will definitely become the lowest grossing of the franchise (domestically) outside of the animated movie from the 80s of course.
