Dunkirk Holds off a bunch of Emojis with $28.1 Million

Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk ($28.1 million) just edged out the $25.7 million from the critically obliterated animated flick The Emoji Movie (hey, it has an 8% Tomatometer, EIGHT PERCENT... that's worse than almost any movie released in theaters this year).

Back to Dunkirk, its getting good notice overseas too, as it has grossed another $45.6 million for a foreign tally of $131.3 million and a an early worldwide total of $234.1 million.

What was actually surprising this week is that Girls Trip (I want to put an apostrophe in that title) is still holding strong as it only dipped 36% from last weekend to come in third place this weekend with $20.1 million.

Charlize Theron's ass kicking flick, Atomic Blonde did well with an $18.6 million debut. It's budget is about $30 million.

Oh Valerian, Valerian, Valerian... I want you to do better, but it's 60 percent drop this weekend to $6.8 million, pretty much kills any chance for redemption Stateside.  So, maybe it'll make some of it's money back overseas.
