Dunkirk Tops Box Office with $50.5 million

Director Christopher Nolan's latest epic, Dunkirk, easily topped the box office with $50.5 million.  Though, not Nolan's biggest opening, Dunkirk pulled through expectations as many expected the World War 2 movie to be a hard sell.

Girls Trip definitely beat the odds and came in a surprising second place with $30.4 million. Which left Spider-Man: Homecoming ($22 million) and War for the Planet of the Apes ($20.4 million) in 3rd and 4th.

As for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,  it had the unfortunate occurrence to come in 5th with a paltry $17 million.  Valerian's reported budget is around $200 million, so you can bet many investors were very disappointed.
