War of the Planet of the Apes Takes Top Spot with $56.5 million Debut

The third installment of the Planet of the Apes reboot series, War for the Planet of the Apes, easily nabbed the top spot with $56.5 million this weekend.  It's a bit less than it's last outing (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes made $72.6 million), though also getting good reviews.

Spider-Man: Homecoming came in second with $45.2 million... which is just above a 60% drop from last weekend.  It has grossed over $208 million domestically and $347.8 million worldwide.

Some say with Spider-Man's somewhat big drop and with War for the Planet of the Apes slightly coming under predictions is due to sequel fatigue... I think in this case, it's more of an over-saturated market where each of their respective audiences are competing against each other.

It's going to be another tough weekend next weekend, as Dunkirk and Valerian will also take a bit of the same target audience.
