Venom Crushes Box Office with $80 million Debut

Your friendly neighborhood symbiote, Venom, easily overcame it's bad reviews to take the top spot at the box office this weekend ($80 million).  This marks the biggest opening for a movie in October (besting Gravity's $55.7 from 2013). It is a huge win for Sony, who's been having a tough time trying to launch a separate Spider-man universe (with out Spider-man).  It also took in a hefty $125 million overseas for a worldwide total of $205 million. Time will tell next weekend, if the reviews will have an effect.

That's not the only big news this weekend... A Star is Born bowed to a big $41.3 million, thanks to strong buzz and early awards contention. These two films helped this weekend to become the biggest October weekend on record.
