Fantastic Beasts 2 Spells Up $62.2 million at the Box Office

The latest installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, The Crimes of Grindelwald easily topped the box office this weekend ($62.2 million).  It's a bit under the $74.4 million of the first film which debuted two years ago. However, overseas, that's another matter, as it raked in $191 million for an early worldwide total of $253.2 million.

The other newcomers, Instant Family ($14.7 million) and Widows ($12.3 million) debuted in 4th and 5th place.

Meanwhile, The Grinch ($38.2 million) and Bohemian Rhapsody ($15.7 million) continues to hold pretty well in their 2nd and 3rd place finish. While The Grinch is getting a slow roll out overseas, Bohemian Rhapsody has already made $256.4 million for a worldwide total of $384.3 million.

In other news, Venom continues to dominate ($51.2 million) in China as it even bested Fantastic Beasts 2's $47.5 bow.   Venom has grossed $207.1 million in China and looks to surpass the domestic counterpart.  It's worldwide total stands at $780.5 million, which puts it right ahead of Deadpool 2's $734.2 million for 2018.
