The Lion King easily held on to the box office throne this weekend with $75.5 million in its second weekend of release.  It also took in $142.8 million overseas, bringing its worldwide box office to $962.7 million.

Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood managed a decent 2nd place with $40.4 million in its debut.

The Lion King is King of the Box Office with $185 Million Debut

The Disney live action reimagining, The Lion King, ascended to the box office throne with $185 million.  It is the biggest opening for a PG movie and the biggest opening in the month of July.  Overseas it earned $269.4 million, for a total of $346 million.  It has grossed $531 million worldwide, so far.

With The Lion King, Disney (in a way) has its hands in the top 3 movies this weekend... ie: 2nd place Spider-Man: Far From Home (A Sony movie by way of Marvel/Disney agreement) and 3rd place Toy Story 4.  All three of them have a good chance of passing the $1 billion mark.

Speaking of Disney, Avengers: Endgame ($2.7902 billion) surpassed Avatar ($2.7897 billion) this weekend to become the highest grossing movie of all time worldwide.

Spider-Man: Far From Home Remains on top with $45.3 million

The latest Marvel installment, Spider-Man: Far From Home, easily topped the box office this weekend ($45.3 million). Its domestic total stands at $274.5 million, still a giant leap away from the original Spider-Man's $403.7 million take from 2002. Overseas, Far From Home took in $100 million this weekend for a foreign total of $572.5 million. Bringing its worldwide total to $847.1 million. It should surpass Spider-Man 3's total worldwide gross ($890.9 million) by next weekend, to become the highest grossing Spider-Man movie of all time.

There were newcomers this weekend: Crawl ($12 million) and Stuber ($8 million) pretty much underperformed. Luckily, those movies don't have a giant budget.

And in Will it or Wont it surpass Avatar news:
Avengers: Endgame climbed to $2.781 billion. Avatar has made $2.788 billion.
